Welcome to the Office of Undergraduate Education!

The Office of Undergraduate Education at UC Merced provides students, faculty and instructional staff with resources that promote academic excellence and academic student success. The Office of Undergraduate Education serves as the central administration for centers and programs that seek to enhance the undergraduate student experience through innovative, collaborative campus partnerships:

The Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning (CETL) provides professional development, assessment and research in support of teaching and learning promotes the success of a diverse student population in a research university context. Programs including Teaching Matters, SATAL and the English Language Institute seek to foster a campus culture that values and rewards continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

The Merritt Writing Program (MWP) provides undergraduate writing instruction with an interdisciplinary approach that offers students the opportunity to reflect broadly on their college education. Small courses focus on critical reading, formal writing and public speaking, allowing students to develop communication skills that will serve them beyond their undergraduate degree.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC) facilitates faculty-mentored undergraduate research projects and creative activities across all academic disciplines through programs such as UC-LEADS (Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degrees) and MARC (Maximizing Access to Research Careers). Program participants have opportunities to engage in research training and graduate preparation including access to research opportunities through the UROC Research Portal, STEM diversity and leadership seminars, and an annual summer undergraduate research symposium.

The University of California, Washington, D.C. Program (UCDC) offers UC Merced students the opportunity to spend a term working and studying in the Washington DC area. Internships and academic coursework are designed to expose students to the American political process while attaining valuable work experience.

Core 01: The World at Home provides foundation for UC Merced's general education program with a strong emphasis on writing, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and understanding events in their historical and cultural contexts. CORE 001 is designed to introduce students to UC Merced's faculty, research, and the academic fields in which they work.
