The 2017-2018 Professional Conference Travel Grant Program designed to increase undergraduate student engagement in co-curricular experiences that provide knowledge of, and access to, post-baccalaureate opportunities. Students will be eligible to apply for funds to cover travel and conference fees for participation in professional conferences. Due to funding retrictions, this grant does not cover hotel, food, mileage or other personal expenses. This program is intended to serve the breadth of UC Merced academic programs; as a result, funding will be equally distributed across the Schools whenever possible.
Minimum Student Eligibility
- Good academic and student conduct standing
- 3.0 GPA (consideration given to students who demonstrate significant GPA improvement in recent semesters)
- Expected graduation no earlier than summer 2018
Application Information Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning November 3, 2017. Applications can be found here.
Competitive applications should:
- Demonstrate academic excellence, including adequate academic preparation, motivation and professionalism necessary for success in the experience
- Include a well-developed justification for participation including purpose and significance of the experience for advancement of student’s academic or professional aspirations
- Submitted at least 6 weeks prior to anticipated travel

Before beginning your application:
- Secure a copy of your résumé and an unofficial UC Merced transcript (avaliable at my.ucmerced.edu)
- Contact a faculty member who can endorse your conference participation - specifically how it can contribute to your academic program. Once your application has been received, your faculty member will be contacted to affirm their recommendation
- Find the link to the conference's registration website
- Identify potential travel dates and times, including estimated costs of airline tickets
- Complete a Plan for Academic and Professional Growth to be uploaded with your application.
